Burrington Parish celebrations for HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, 2 – 5 June

Burrington Parish (including villages of Rickford and Langford) will be celebrating HM The Queen’s jubilee with events over the Bank Holiday weekend, to which all parishioners, their house guests and Burrington school families are warmly invited.

Thursday 2 June – lighting of beacon

From 7.30pm in the Church Field (next to Burrington House)

Barbecue and bar

The beacon will be lit at approximately 9pm

The event will end with a firework display by 10pm

Sunday 5 June

12.00 – Short service of thanksgiving in the churchyard, followed by drinks

12.30 onwards – Big Jubilee Lunch Street Party in Burrington Square

Hog roast and vegetarian option provided, BYO picnic to accompany it

Jubilee bake/pudding competition, entries on the day

Bar

Tables and chairs will be set out in The Square (Parish Rooms if wet)

Live music from Jerry Blythe and the Floor Shiners

Visit from Blagdon fire engine

2.00 onwards – children’s and family games in the school field

Car parking will be available in the church field on Sunday

Treasure Hunt

A treasure hunt is planned which takes a route around Burrington and Rickford with clues to answer along the way

Sheets will be available for £1 each, in advance at school and at the Thursday evening beacon event. It is hoped that families will complete this over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend and entries will be handed in on Sunday afternoon

Our villages are also exploring tree planting in a small spinney to commemorate the Jubilee as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy scheme. It would be a lovely way to mark the occasion with relevance to all generations. That event is likely to happen in the Autumn planting season.

These events are being generously funded by the parish council, Burrington Church and the Parish Rooms. There will be no charge for entry or the food available, although there will be the opportunity to donate towards the costs by cash or card.
